Investigations for a patient with back pain

the causes of back pain are numerous, and so the investigations are also numerous to cover most of the possibilites of what may be causing the pain. examples of investigations that should be conducted for a patient who suffers from back pain include:

1) Complete blood count to see inflammatory components or other abnormalities that may suggest something is wrong with the bodily functions

2) Routine urine examination

3) Ultrasonography of the abdomen and pelvis to exclude inflammation of organs or damage to organs

4) X-ray of the lumbar and sacral region to exclude inflammatory causes such as arthritis or infection of the bone or injuries due to trauma

5) MRI of the spine to exclude tumours of the spine

5) CT scan of abdomen and pelvic region to exclude inflammation of the pelvic region

6) Examination of rectum, prostate, genito urinary organs to exclude renal or uretic stones, prostate cancer or pancreatitis, peptic ulcers and occlusions of major arteries such as the aorta
