Snake bites in Ausie

Common snake bites are from the common brown snake which is almost in all over Ausie

·          Around 500 – 3000 per year

·          1 in 10 require antivenom

·          Appro 2 deaths a year

·          Western Ausie about 9 deaths since 1980 til 2007

Worldwide snake bites

§   Around  5,500,000 bites yearly

§  Mainly farmers, herdsman, plantation workers, tourists

§  Asia 25 – 35,000

§  South America 3 – 4,000

§  Estimated 1,000,000 snake bites 200 000 deaths and lot of disabilities in Africa each year
